Henry is in disbelief that Vicarstown has been declared Sodor's capital, and it hasn't changed much since the days of the Sodor and Mainland Railway. On that day, James and Henry were at the Lumber Yard with Matthew. On September 20, 1946, the Sodor Council was sworn in and on that day, the island's capital city was officially declared. In 1946, the Attlee government stepped in, and aside from nationalising industries, they also amalgamated the various councils of Great Britain into larger ones, which included Sodor. Vital infrastructures like roads and bridges also consequently fell into disrepair. The separate councils used to constantly argue over very petty things and back-biting and buck-passing was rampant. Though, on a small island, this jumbled up arrangement led to numerous problems. ![]() Before 1946, instead of a central government, almost every town on Sodor had its own mayor and administration.
